Care and Maintenance
Wearing your piece of jewellery
MOOCHACHA jewellery pieces are created using exceptional gemstones and precious metals and are selected for their aesthetic quality and rarity. To preserve their beauty, you are advised to treat them with great care and handle them with delicacy. By acknowledging a few precautions for use and maintenance, you will be able to keep your jewellery in perfect condition for a long period of time.
The precious stones and metals which compose your MOOCHACHA piece of jewellery are delicate materials. Choose your piece of jewellery according to your activities.
It is best to avoid wearing your jewellery in the following situations:
- When washing your hands, in order to avoid soap deposits slipping into small crevices and tarnishing your piece of jewellery.
- When doing activities requiring the use of corrosive products (gardening, cleaning, dishwashing…) in order to avoid damaging the stones that adorn your piece of jewellery.
- When practising sports, in order to avoid impacts and scratches.
It is also best to avoid:
- Exposing jewellery to strong heat: temperature changes can irreversibly damage precious stones.
- Putting on perfume and make-up while wearing your jewellery: chemical ingredients contained in cosmetics are harmful to certain stones.
Storing your piece of jewellery
Pieces of jewellery can present scratch marks when in contact with one another. It is therefore strongly recommended to store each piece of jewellery individually in its case or travel pouch.
Be sure to always close your chain’s clasp to avoid any knots forming.
Checking your piece of jewellery
Simple actions allow you to check the condition of your piece of jewellery.
Before wearing it:
- Check that the clasp works perfectly.
- Check that stones are maintained correctly. To do so, delicately pass your finger over the stones.
- If they are moving, please visit our showroom for maintenance work.
Taking care of your piece of jewellery
To preserve their brilliance, special care must be given to each type of gemstone based on their mineral properties. Advice for each type of stone or precious material is further detailed in the next chapter.
Gold
To avoid scratches, keep your gold jewellery from rubbing against other set pieces of jewellery. Polishing and rhodium plating for white gold return the material to its near original shine and remove marks of wear and tear. Clean your gold jewellery with warm water and a soft brush before drying it with a soft cloth.
Silver
Silver will naturally tarnish with exposure to the air, environment, perfumes, moisturisers, hairspray and soaps. Polish your silver with polishing cloth after wearing and store your jewellery in an airtight jewellery box and always seperately as they can scratch each other.
Platinum
To avoid scratches, keep your gold and platinum jewellery from rubbing against other set pieces of jewellery. Clean your platinum jewellery with warm water and a soft brush before drying it with a soft cloth.
Titanium
Although titanium is a very durable and hard to damage metal, it is not completely scratch resistant. Clean your titanium jewellery with warm water and a soft brush before drying it with a soft cloth.
Diamond
A diamond can only be scratched by a diamond, but it easily scratches every other metal or stone with which it comes into contact. In order to avoid scratching, it is recommended not to wear multiple pieces of jewellery on the same finger or wrist. Despite its hardness, the diamond remains a delicate stone, likely to break in the event of a strong impact. Clean your diamond with warm water and a soft brush before drying it with a soft cloth.
Mother-of-Pearl / Pearl
Mother-of-pearl must not be subjected to intense thermal shocks. Exposing it to cosmetics, such as creams and perfumes, and chemicals, such as detergents and cigarette smoke, may alter its colour and iridescence. Clean mother-of-pearl with a soft cloth.
